CWDS Glossary
The CWDS Glossary includes a List of Acronyms and defined terms captured from various models, reports, and other artifacts pertaining to the Child Welfare System – California Automated Response and Engagement System (CWS-CARES) Project. The Glossary standardizes terms used across the various project disciplines; each term is defined with its meaning specific to the project domain.

Source-To-Target Mapping (STTM)
Source-to-target mapping is the process of defining how data from a source system is transformed and loaded into a target system. It involves specifying which data elements from the source are mapped to corresponding elements in the target, along with any necessary transformations or rules. This mapping is crucial for data integration and migration projects, ensuring data accuracy and consistency.
Special Care Increment
A system that allows a county to pay a higher than basic foster care rate for children that require additional care because of special needs, such as health and/or behavior problems.
Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS)
A child welfare service to help foreign children who have been abused, abandoned, or neglected to establish legal residency status to live and work in the United States.
Special Project Report (SPR)
The SPR provides a basis for understanding and agreement among project management, program management, and executive management, as well as state-level control agencies. The SPR provides a summary of the results of the original feasibility study, and the justification for any changes.
Sprint
A regular, repeatable time-boxed work cycle during which work is completed and made ready for review.
Sprint Zero Artifacts
The documents that will be delivered by a Sprint team during the Sprint Zero Phase.
Sprint Zero Phase
The period of time prior to a Sprint team commencing delivery Sprints (e.g., Discovery).
SSANAME3
A software development kit (SDK) developed by Identity Systems that enables organizations to build business application programs to search, match, rank, and analyze records about people, companies, products, addresses and various other identity data. It can be executed on most any platform and operates on data stored in any database. It supports the CWS/CMS search functionality (e.g., phonetic search).
Stabilization
The stabilization period for a software application is the phase that follows its deployment or major change, during which the system is tested, refined, and made reliable enough to operate effectively in a live environment. It is a critical stage that ensures the software can handle real-world usage without frequent failures or performance issues.
The goal is to confirm that the product works under real conditions and to protect the release, users, and support teams from instability. It shifts focus from adding new features to fixing defects, optimizing performance, and ensuring reliability.

Staff Services Manager (SSM)
A Staff Services Manager oversees and manages functions within an organization, often acting as a first-level supervisor and/or subject matter expert. This role may involve supervising a team of analysts, specializing in a complex or critical area of expertise. They may contribute directly with planning partners, policy enforcement, and oversight stakeholders from various federal and state agencies. The manager series describes three levels of complexity (I. II, or III and focuses on a wide variety of fiscal, management, specialist and staff functions including but not limited to personnel, budget, administration, planning, policy analysis and legislation.
